Key Dates
From the office of the President

By the time you receive this newsletter, our first spring sports weekend will be behind us. I hope that it was a good weekend for your family. Much time, energy, and planning was expended by hundreds of volunteers and CDC staff members. We have over 5000 children and 2000 adults participating. Soccer is our largest sport. Golf has the smallest number of participants.

In addition to the nine sports happening, the new concession program was kicked-off. Last January, we implemented the new policy. We think this system will be a big improvement but again, it has been a real sacrifice of energy, planning, and time management on the CDC staff. Imagine overseeing 1700 – 2 hour time slot filled by volunteers or paid Carmel youths or adults. If your son or daughter is 14 years and interested in working, we are still hiring concession workers. Apply by emailing to

It is hard to believe that the Spring Season just began and we now need to begin registering for the Fall Season. Fall Registration goes from May 1 to June 4th. Please check our website for full details. At the time you register, you will be asked to volunteer to work in the concession stand for 2-hours. If your personal situation does not permit you to volunteer, you may elect to pay a $20 non-refundable fee in lieu of volunteering. Again, we will use this fee to hire Carmel youths or adults to work. Your willingness to volunteer your time helps us better serve the young people of Carmel.

On a special note I would like to again thank General Commissioners Jim Town (Pups Basketball) and David Morton (Soccer). Both of these gentlemen have volunteered their time, energies, and expertise in helping Carmel Dads’ Club be better. Unfortunately, Jim and David elected to no longer serve as General Manager. We thank them! Carmel Dads’ Club is a better organization because of their service.

I thank you for all you have done, and will continue to do, to support Carmel Dads’ Club!

CDC Fall Sport Registration
May 1- June 4th 2008

Our Fall Sport Registration is underway! We have made some important changes to the registration process. We strongly encourage you to use our online system to process your registration. You will be able to register through a two part process: one for registration and one for volunteering. The system has been updated and you will find it easier to use.

You will need your email address on file with CDC if you do not know your username and password.

Because we want you to register and volunteer online, there will be no convenience fees charged for online registration.

If you choose to come into the office, you will be directed to a computer kiosk to complete your registration. We would be glad to answer any questions you may have and appreciate your patience as we make changes to better serve our membership.

Thank you!

Reminder: Late Registration & Waitlist starts Thursday, July 5th, 2008 and a $25.00 fee will be added per child to the registration.

The Scholarship Divide: Expectations Lose to Reality of Sports Scholarships

"At youth sporting events, the sidelines have become the ritual community meeting place, where families sit in rows of folding chairs aligned like church pews. These congregations are diverse in spirit but unified by one gospel: heaven is your child receiving a college athletic scholarship."
